Based on a true story, A Child Called "It" allows you to step into the shoes of a young boy whose life  drastically changes after his mentally unstable and now alcoholic mother takes out her anger and depression on her only target, him. Once living a normal, healthy life David now has to survive under the conditions bestowed upon him, which include living under the stair case, being submerged in freezing water, as well as being forced to consume his own throw up. David knew even at such a young age the only person he had, was himself, and the only way to see another day was to have the willpower to continue. Despite the fact that David suffered both mental as well as physical abuse his inner strength shined through and he overcame his torturous childhood.
One reason this book has had such an influence on me is because it allows you to see just how much human spirit can over come and provide strength in even the toughest of situations. While reading this book I couldn't believe the things such a young boy was put through, but what made this story much more intriguing was how such a young boy didn't let it affect him, his spirit helped him survive his mothers injustice. This book will give you another outlook on life, and it helped me to realize that no matter how bad I think I might have it, there is always someone who has it much worse.
